As the business travel season winds down, it is time for renewals to the Consortia programme for fares negotiated with large companies.

What is Consortia? A strategic choice for working with business travel

Travel agencies specialising in corporate travel have contracts with GDS channels using the four main channels: SABRE, Amadeus, Galileo and Worldspan (TRAVELPORT).

Once connected to the system, your hotel can be searched through a variety of parameters, such as:

  • location or airport code;
  • chain code and GDS distribution;
  • name of the hotel; type of hotel;
  • points of interest; structure characteristics;
  • services offered by the hotel;

as long as you provide all the information to the various providers to optimise it.

That's why we are in direct contact with our affiliated hotels through our constant monitoring and help desk, precisely in order to provide them with constant assistance in improving and increasing their turnover using the Lanyon system.

How Consortia act

Most of the travel agencies specialised in business travel are members of consortia (called Consortia) that could be compared to corporate travel purchasing groups.

They are very diversified, depending on the type of clientele and their geographical distribution.

Those who work with Consortia programmes book through GDS because the booking is very fast, clear and on time and gives agencies the security of receiving commissions for bookings made.

Here are the main international consortia

  • ABC
  • American Express
  • BCD
  • BSI
  • BTI
  • CarlsonWagonlit
  • CCRA
  • DER
  • E-Hotel
  • FCM
  • Hogg Robinson (HRG)
  • ITP
  • JTB
  • Radius
  • Thor
  • Travelocity Business
  • Worldtravel

Not being present on the GDS means giving up a substantial slice of the market, especially since foreign agencies and therefore large international consortia work precisely on these channels.

By joining Consortia's programmes, you have the opportunity to participate in dedicated sales initiatives, meetings, networking and direct marketing with agencies and representatives.

Hotels participating in a Consortia programme are preferred by travel agents because:

  • are more profiled and professional;
  • can offer agencies the certainty of room availability on the GDS;
  • publish the best rate (BAR) in line with other distribution channels;
  • make available insured negotiated rates throughout the year
